Umphrey’s McGee Fall Tour has arrived! Sort of. After playing a couple hometown shows at North Coast Music Festival, Chicago’s finest will hit the road for the next seventeen days and play twelve shows around the Southeast and Midwest. In that run, the band will jet out to Morrison, Colorado for the annual Red Rocks/Boulder Theater weekend which is sure to be one for the ages. For tonight, we focus on the historic Jefferson Theater in Charlottesville, VA.
Home of UM’s new record label, ATO Records, Charlottesville has brought out some spirited performances from the band in recent past. In 2011, the energetic college town crowd was treated to the first extended version of “Miami Virtue” which was followed by a raucous, 22-minute “Ocean Billy.” The previous year didn’t lend itself to the mellow Umphrey’s McGee fans either, as tunes like “The Fuzz,” “Nothing Too Fancy” and “In the Kitchen” all came out to play during the 2010 show. What will the band break out this year? Riding the high from two great shows in their hometown, Umphrey’s McGee starts the “Road to Atlanta Tour” tonight in Charlottesville, VA. Stay tuned!
